DSP

Sources use the term to describe the digital engine inside effects such as delays, reverbs, compressors, octavers, and distortions, whether emulating analog or vintage designs or creating original sounds1234. Some pedals use DSP to recreate the character of older technology, such as a DSP chip emulating a BBD analog effect or a DSP unit recreating magnetic memory drums34. Others pursue high sound quality directly, such as a 32-bit high-precision DSP used without simulation or modeling5. The term also appears in product names and rig descriptions, such as DSP guitar rigs using amp and IR pedals, and powerful DSP enabling modeling with responsiveness to playing dynamics67.
