JFET
A JFET, or junction field-effect transistor, is a type of transistor used in effects circuits as a gain stage, boost, or input stage12. Builders often use JFET transistors in place of tubes, giving pedals a tube-like response, dynamic feel, or clipping character13456. JFET stages appear in clean boosts, preamps, overdrives, and fuzzes, sometimes combined with other transistor types7891011. Depending on how a JFET stage is biased, it can be described as transparent and clean or as adding harmonics and a touch of grit1221314.
