multi-effects
Multi-effects refers to a pedal or unit that combines several effects in one enclosure, such as the Vox StompLab series of multi-effects pedals for guitar and bass12. Such units can process multiple effect types in sequence, as in the Electro-Harmonix Epitome, a digital multi-effect that chains polyphonic pitch tracking, flanging and chorus, and reverb3, or the EMS Synthi Hi-Fli, an early multi-effect unit combining fuzz, octave shift, ring modulation, phasing, and resonant filters4. Designs range from all-in-one offerings like the Mooer Red Truck5 to compact units such as the Valeton GP-5, which packs a flagship processor's features into a palm-sized enclosure6. The term is also used more loosely, as when Catalinbread describes its Bitters as "a multi-effects pedal on steroids"7.
