parametric EQ
A parametric EQ is an equalizer that lets you target specific frequencies with one control and boost or cut that frequency with another, with Q sometimes adjustable1. It provides detailed control with continuous sweep across ranges of the audio spectrum, normally using knobs, with boost or cut gain at a chosen frequency measured in hertz2. Low Q settings sound like a traditional EQ, while higher Q adds resonant nodes3. In pedal form it appears as standalone units4, as EQ stages inside fuzz and overdrive pedals56, and in preamps and compressors78.
