pitch shifting
Pitch shifting is an effect that changes the pitch of a signal, and it appears in pedals both as a standalone function and as processing within delays, reverbs, vibrato, and flanger-type effects123. It can be used in small amounts, such as a few cents applied to upshifted and downshifted signals panned left and right for stereo widening2. It also appears as sub-octave shifting used as a thickening agent4, polyphonic shifting an octave up and down5, and rhythmic or glitchy shifting67. Sources describe it in modes of multi-effect and delay pedals, including pitch-shifting delay lines and pitch-shifting bursts189.
