polyphonic

Polyphonic describes effects that process multiple notes or full chords at once, rather than only single notes. In pitch-based pedals it matters because tracking chords accurately is difficult; the POG3's polyphonic octave algorithm is described as reproducing single notes and chords with clarity and fast tracking1, and Boss says its XS series gives balanced polyphonic performance across playing styles, pickups, and pedal setups, with complex chords reproduced clearly2. The term also appears in octave pedals3, pitch transposers4, reverb modes that apply pitch shifts to the reverb tail5, and an amplitude synthesizer that alters attack and decay6. DigiTech's Polyphonic Detuner uses the approach to thicken bass tone without a chorus pedal7.
