pre-delay

Pre-delay is a reverb control that sets how long before the reverb catches up with the played note1. It appears as a knob or parameter on many reverb pedals, such as the Boss RV-200, Universal Audio Golden Reverberator, and Wampler Reflection234. In reverse reverb modes, pre-delay time controls can manipulate the flipped signal responses5, and on the Electro-Harmonix Oceans 12, a pre-delay feedback control can turn soft reflections into a clanging racket6. Sources describe settings ranging from fairly long pre-delay on the Caroline Météore to the shorter pre-delay of the Neunaber Immerse algorithm78.
