Glossary
presence
Sources use the term to describe how a pedal or circuit adds cut and jump to a signal, such as a mid bump giving more cut and presence1, or a focused midrange with a bit of presence on top of the signal to help cut through the mix2. It is also used for specific frequency areas, including midrange presence3, low-mid presence4, and upper harmonic presence5. Fuzz tones are noted for often losing presence in the mids6, while some designs are described as retaining presence and detail in the upper mids7.
