soft-touch

In many designs the switch works with a relay, so the signal passes through the relay rather than the switch itself, allowing silent activation and preventing a worn switch from causing signal loss1. Soft-touch switching is commonly paired with true bypass or relay bypass, as in true-bypass relay switching with a soft-touch footswitch2. Some soft-touch relay designs also support momentary and latching operation3, and one proprietary version uses hit-and-release for traditional on/off and hit-and-hold for momentary on4.
