toggle switch
A toggle switch is a small switch on a pedal that selects between two or more settings or modes1. It is used to change a pedal's character, such as selecting between tight aggressive and mellow warm distortion on a two-way toggle1, or offering tonal options on a three-position switch2. Toggle switches also select between silicon and germanium diodes in a clipping section3, or between germanium and silicon fuzz circuits4. They can bypass a tone circuit5, change filter character with low-pass, high-pass, and unfiltered options6, or dictate the order of a signal chain7.
