tuner

Tuner pedals exist in chromatic, polyphonic, and strobe designs; polyphonic models such as the HardWire HT-6 and TC Electronic Polytune 2 Noir can tune all strings of an instrument at once, and the Polytune 2 Noir adds a polyphonic tuning mode with a strobe tuner and bright LED display1. In a rig, the tuner often sits at the start of the signal chain, as with the Boss TU-3 in the rigs of Ryan Stasik, Jake Cinninger, and Pat Badger23. Manufacturers emphasize that a tuner should not alter the signal: Korg states its Pitchblack circuits do not change, degrade, or modify the sound, and the Boss TU-3W offers selectable buffered or true-bypass operation with transparent audio pass-through45. Some models mute the input sound while tuning, which Korg notes makes the unit ideal for stage use6.
