American Wizard Toneworks Hera Fuzz

The American Wizard Toneworks Hera Fuzz is a fuzz effects pedal with a single control. Pedal of the Day, which featured it in August 2016, called it "a one-knob beast": the only knob on the pedal is Volume, and turning it does more than set the level. According to the review, raising the Volume increases both the fuzz and the overall output at the same time, so the pedal goes from a fuzzy but slightly mellow tone at low settings to what the reviewer described as a crushing, fuzzy sound as the knob is turned right, producing a large wall of sound.¹²

What it does

Because Volume is the only control, the Hera Fuzz is set by ear in one move: low on the knob for a gentler fuzz, high on the knob for maximum fuzz and level together. That makes it a simple pedal to use, with no internal menus, toggles or secondary controls to learn. Players who want more control from the same maker could look at the Hive Fuzz, another one-knob design, or the Blk Fuzz Plus, which adds Tone and Drive controls and a Boost channel to a one-knob fuzz².
