The Analog Alien Power Pack is a simple, versatile clean boost pedal. It is designed to work with both guitar and bass, and its purpose is straightforward: push the front end of an amp harder without changing the character of the instrument. Guitar World reported the pedal's launch in August 2017, with an MSRP of $159 at that time, available to order by email.1
What it does
The Power Pack combines two things a player usually needs from a boost: a buffer and a gain stage. Its buffered input and unique gain stage, in Analog Alien's description, make it a good choice for boosting an amp's input stage.1
At the same time, the pedal is built to leave the signal untouched in level and tone when set at unity. According to the announcement, it is meant to "maintain unity gain and tonal balance throughout your signal path."1 That makes it a pedal that can sit on a board permanently, adding push to the amp when engaged and staying out of the way otherwise, rather than a boost that colors the tone as it lifts it.
Where it sits on a board
As a clean boost, the Power Pack belongs to the same family as other level-and-buffer pedals rather than to overdrive, distortion or fuzz designs that clip the signal. Players who already use other Analog Alien pedals, such as the Alien Comp compressor, can pair it with them in the same signal chain.1
