Analogwise Pedals' Eat Your Heart Out is a fuzz pedal built with three germanium transistor gain stages, using transistors the builder took out of a sealed box after roughly 30 years without seeing daylight. It sits alongside the company's Dead Man Walking fuzz, offering a smoother tone and a bit higher gain.1

What it does

The pedal's character comes from its germanium gain stages. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio, writing about the pair of pedals, described the builder's own framing of the sound1:

"You can think of \"Eat Your Heart Out\" as Ian Gillain, nailing that smooth, over-sustained \"Child in Time\" vocalisati"1

In other words, the builder points to a smooth, over-sustained quality rather than the raspy end of the fuzz family. Where the Dead Man Walking sits, Eat Your Heart Out offers a smoother tone and a bit higher gain.1

Controls and power

Both pedals in the pair have bias controls that let you adjust the grittiness of the fuzz, so you can dial the texture from smoother toward grittier to suit your amp and playing.1

For power, the pedal takes regular 9V power. If you want more headroom and are willing to accept a little bit more noise, it can also run at 12V.1

The 12V option trades extra headroom for a little more noise, so it is worth trying both settings to hear which suits your setup.1
