Ark Atom Grumpkin

The Ark Atom Grumpkin is a three-knob overdrive pedal from Ark Atom, a maker new to pedals at its 2018 release. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described it as "a three knob overdrive with a 'Magic' know that open things up a little on the high end," and noted it was "New from Australia, Ark Atom unveiled their first pedal called the Grumpkin."¹

What it does

The Grumpkin produces what Delicious Audio calls "A Tube-like overdriven breakup with a 'magic' knob that adds in a clean trebly top end to the overdriven sound." The Magic knob blends that clean, trebly top end over the driven signal, and the pedal is said to shine with low gain settings and high Magic levels.¹

The volume knob carries what the review calls "a surprising amount of volume available," enough that the pedal can act as a front end boost, working with your amp to make use of its own characteristics. Players after that kind of use may also want to read about boost pedals.¹

The gain control is not a copy of a familiar circuit. As the maker puts it: "Not your traditional clone of any pedal, this is our design. Grumpkin has been designed from the ground up," with careful gain-staging dialed in to handle both rhythm and lead guitar players.¹

Demo

The pedal was featured in a demo video by The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show, which Delicious Audio described as "our favorite Australian pedal-videographers."¹
