The Shaftesbury Duo Fuzz is a fuzz pedal dating from 1968, sold in the UK by Rose-Morris, which had a showroom in Shaftesbury Avenue. The design behind it was developed by the Shin-Ei corporation in Japan, who knew it as the FY-6, and Shin-Ei made it in several guises for a large number of different companies1. It belongs to the broader family of Fuzz Pedals.
Where it came from
The pedal reached British players through Rose-Morris, the UK distributor with a Shaftesbury Avenue showroom, under the Shaftesbury name. Behind it sat Shin-Ei's FY-6 design, which the company supplied in several guises to a large number of different companies, so the same basic circuit appeared under more than one badge1.

Finding one today
An original Duo Fuzz unit is now rare and expensive, as Guitar World's Trevor Curwen notes in his review of a later Heritage Edition of the pedal1. Players after the design's character in a vintage original should expect that scarcity to be reflected in the price of an original unit.
