The Barkin Effects Nitro Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from a small builder. Pedal of the Day featured it in March 2014 alongside the builder's other pedal, the Vibrofon, describing the pair as "the extremly unique Vibrofon and the wicked-heavy Nitro Fuzz"1. The post was submitted by the builder itself: "Submitted by the guys from Barkin Effect"1.
"Look out for these two pedals, they are DIRTY and AWESOME"
What it does
The Nitro Fuzz sits in the fuzz family, the branch of dirt pedals that also includes overdrive and distortion designs. Pedal of the Day's write-up is the main published account of it, and its verdict was that the pedal is heavy and dirty in character, summed up in the quotation above1. The post also carried a video demo covering both of Barkin Effects' featured pedals1.
A later pedal under the same name
Reviewers who came across the Nitro Fuzz name had strong words for it. One reviewer's verdict on the Barkin Effects Nitro Fuzz was simply: "Look out for these two pedals, they are DIRTY and AWESOME"1.
The 2016 Elta Electrolaboratory Nitro Fuzz and the 2014 Barkin Effects Nitro Fuzz are separate entries on Pedal of the Day.
