The Matt Hoopes Low-End Enhanced Edition is a special version of the Loaf Fuzz from BIG EAR pedals. Two things set it apart from the standard pedal: Matt Hoopes' own notes are scripted on the facia, and the circuit's low end has been enhanced. According to Guitar Pedal X, Grant and Karen of BIG EAR pedals "added Matt Hoopes' notes to the facia and enhanced the low end for single coil and bright pickups, reducing harsh, brittle and buzzy top-end"1.
What it does
The enhanced low end output profile is aimed at players with single coil or otherwise bright pickups. The stated intent is to reduce the harsh, brittle and buzzy top end that those pickups can push into a fuzz, while the added low end fills out the sound1. On a standard fuzz, single coils often leave the low end thin; this edition is voiced the other way round, with the low end boosted and the top end tamed.
The facia carries Matt Hoopes' notes scripted on it, a signature touch that marks this edition apart from the standard Loaf1.
"Grant and Karen are releasing a Matt Hoopes sort of signature version of the pedal with some of his notes scripted on the facia."
Price and availability
The Matt Hoopes Loaf Fuzz edition was listed at $199 as of 2 November 2023, sold direct from the BIG EAR pedals Webstore rather than through dealers1.
