The Special Twosome Deluxe is a fuzz pedal from Blackout Effectors that puts two of the company's fuzz circuits in a single enclosure. It came in two versions: one pairing the Musket Fuzz with the Fix'd Fuzz, and the other pairing the Blunderbuss Fuzz with the Fix'd Fuzz1. After a slight delay, the pedal was reported as now shipping on 10 September 20141.
What it does
The idea is simple: two fuzzes, one box, so a player can carry a single pedal instead of two. The Deluxe edition added a change to how the two circuits are arranged. In earlier editions, the hierarchy control, which decides which circuit sits on top in the signal chain, was worked by a switcher toggle. In the Deluxe, that became a third stompswitch, so the ordering can be changed with a foot while playing. Delicious Audio's Grayson Fiske called the change out directly: "Another new feature in this edition is the hierarchy control being changed from a switcher toggle to a third stompswitch," adding, "The convenience factor is much appreciated."1
Availability
Blackout Effectors ran the Special Twosome as a limited run, and earlier editions sold out quickly. Fiske's advice at the time was that "if sales are anything like they have been with previous editions of this pedal, you would be wise to get on this moving"1. His overall take on the maker was blunt: "they are making some damn fine pedals. Especially the Special Twosome Deluxe"1.
The Special Twosome Deluxe was a limited-edition release from 2014. Blackout Effectors has also built standalone versions of the circuits inside it, including the Fix'd Fuzz Deluxe, the Musket Fuzz v2, the Crystal Dagger and the Fubär Fuzz, for players looking at the company's fuzz range more broadly1.
