The Catalinbread Zero Point Flanger is a flanger pedal, part of the wider family of flanger pedals, built around an unusual control scheme: instead of a rate knob running the sweep on its own, the player drives the sweep with a momentary switch. Hold the flange switch down and the effect sweeps upward; let go and it sweeps back down1.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| ON/OFF switch | Turns the pedal on and off |
| FLANGE switch | Momentary: pressed down, the flange effect sweeps upward; released, it sweeps back down |
| GAIN trimpot (internal) | Sets the overall gain of the Zero Point, factory-set for a very slight volume bump when engaged |
The internal gain trimpot sits inside the pedal rather than on the top panel, so setting the level means opening the unit up. Catalinbread ships it factory-set for a very slight bump in volume when the pedal is engaged1.
Subtractive mode
The flange switch behaves differently depending on the pedal's mode. In subtractive mode, holding the momentary switch down eventually causes the two signals to cancel out: they end up delayed by the same amount and out of phase, which silences the signal while the switch is held1.
The Zero Point takes 9 to 18 volts DC, center negative only. It has no battery option, so plan your power supply accordingly.

Questions
How does the flange switch on the Zero Point work?
The flange switch is momentary. Pressing it down makes the flange effect sweep upward, and releasing it lets the effect sweep back down. In subtractive mode, holding the switch down long enough brings the two delayed signals into phase at the same delay time, and they cancel out.
What power does the Zero Point Flanger need?
It runs on 9 to 18 volts DC, center negative, and takes no battery. A standard 9V pedal supply works, and the pedal also accepts 18V supplies from compatible power sources.
