The DMB Whiskey Bender is an overdrive and fuzz pedal from DMB Pedals, a boutique pedal maker. It was announced in April 2013 for release on May 1st of that year, a launch the maker marked with a Facebook giveaway1. As a hybrid of two effect types, it sits between the worlds of Overdrive Pedals and Fuzz Pedals, covering ground that players might otherwise reach for in Distortion Pedals as well.
What it does
The Whiskey Bender combines overdrive and fuzz in one box. DMB Pedals described its character as a "Chewy, un-focused, non-transparent texture distilled with 21 bottles of flavorful harmonic content"1, a deliberately unpolished take on the two circuits rather than a clean-boost style design.
Controls
The pedal carries four knobs, each shaping a different part of the sound1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drive | Sets the amount of drive |
| Bite | Sets the top end amount |
| Level | Sets the output level |
| Clean | Blends in clean signal |
The Bite control gives the player a direct hand over how much high-end edge comes through, while the Clean control allows the effected and clean signals to be mixed, a feature more often seen on overdrive designs than on straight fuzzes1.
