The Afterlife of Pitch is a collaboration effects pedal from two US builders, Dwarfcraft Devices and Fuzzrocious. It puts Dwarfcraft's Wizard of Pitch together with the Fuzzrocious Afterlife Reverb in one stompbox, and adds a new glitch footswitch on top. MusicRadar announced it in June 2016 with a $315 preorder price and a July 2016 release date1.
What it does
The pedal is a hybrid of two circuits. MusicRadar described it as pairing "Dwarfcraft's Wizard of Pitch with the Fuzzrocious Afterlife Reverb," packing the glitchy pitch side and the reverb side into one enclosure1. Gearnews.com's writeup called it "part glitch pitch unit and part ambience-orientated reverb pedal," aimed at "sonic sound artists and makers of noise"2.
The collaboration is not just two circuits in a box. Gearnews noted that the design adds "an oscillation mod to the Afterlife reverb, so you do get some features that are unique to this dual design"2. On top of that, the builders added a new glitch footswitch, which MusicRadar described as being "for additional noise endeavours"1.
For a player, that means one footswitchable box covering pitch glitch work and ambient reverb, with features available here that neither the standalone Wizard of Pitch nor the standalone Afterlife Reverb offers21.
A limited run
The Afterlife of Pitch was a small-batch release from the start:
- Only 50 units were made in total1
- Five of those were hand-painted1
- The remaining 45 were silk-screen printed1
- Preorders opened at $315 ahead of a July 2016 release1
With a run of 50 units announced in June 2016, the Afterlife of Pitch is a limited-edition pedal. It sits in the wider field of octave and pitch pedals as a boutique collaboration rather than a mass-produced line.
