The Ghost Fax is a phaser pedal from Dwarfcraft Devices, announced in March 2018 and set to start shipping the following month1. It is not a conventional phaser: where most phaser pedals run a fixed number of stages, the Ghost Fax carries 32 phaser poles and lets you choose how many of them are in play. Dwarfcraft's own description of the sound is blunt: "like a robot throwing up forever"1.

Controls and modes

The pedal's four modes are Standard, Envelope Up, Envelope Down and Manual1. The Poles knob dials in the number of poles you want active, with up to 16 settings in total1.

A separate Pause footswitch halts the phase at your preferred spot on any of the other three modes, so you can freeze the sweep where you want it and release it when you are ready1.

The Ghost Fax also accepts an expression pedal, which can be hooked up to either the "Action" or "Poles" pots, putting the sweep or the pole count under your foot as you play1.

The Ghost Fax was announced on 21 March 2018 with shipping set to begin the next month1. Dwarfcraft later presented the pedal as the Ghost Fax Phase Computer, and it has its own page on this site: Dwarfcraft Devices Ghost Fax Phase Computer.

Questions

How many poles does the Ghost Fax have?

The Ghost Fax has 32 phaser poles, and the Poles knob lets you dial in how many of them are active, with up to 16 settings in total. That is far beyond the four to eight stages of a typical phaser, which is a large part of what makes the pedal unusual.

What are the Ghost Fax's four modes?

The pedal offers Standard, Envelope Up, Envelope Down and Manual modes. In Manual you can set the phase to a spot you like, and on any of the other three modes you can hold that spot temporarily by stepping on the Pause footswitch.
