The Nitrofuzz is a fuzz pedal from Elta Music, a maker of pedals aimed at guitarists, bassists and synthesizer players. Elta Music describes it as "a powerful fuzz pedal which provides different sounds and timbres," with a range that runs "from high-gain and oscillative to 8bit-ish, torn and compressed."1 For a player, that puts it on the more extreme end of fuzz pedals, in territory closer to synth pedals and octave & pitch pedals than to a straightforward overdrive or distortion.
Circuit and versions
Elta Music says the fuzz has three transistors in its circuit, one of them being a Soviet germanium type transistor from the 1960s to 1980s.1 Germanium transistors are a traditional choice in fuzz design, and the use of a period Soviet part gives the pedal a component character that differs from silicon-based designs.
The maker's page also refers to an old version of the pedal, the Nitrofuzz 28, alongside the current Nitrofuzz 30.1
Elta Music's page distinguishes between the current Nitrofuzz 30 and an old version, the Nitrofuzz 28.1
