The Emerald Ox FX GLTTR! is a noise-generating effects pedal that can also act as a synth. Guitar.com's reviewer Cillian Breathnach called it "a synth in disguise", and the pedal carries the tagline "embrace the chaos"1. It is not a conventional effect: it belongs to the category of pedals that get listed as "other" or "glitch/weird", and in Breathnach's view "it earns it"1.
What it does
At the heart of the GLTTR!'s noise-generation is a delay chip, though the pedal works very differently from a standard delay. It generates cascading noise that evolves over time, and, as the review puts it, "even reacts to your playing when it feels like it"1.
The pedal's "!!!" control is described in the manual as the "most important" control. It works in tandem with the pedal's switches to give varying outputs1.
What it sounds like
Guitar.com's reviewer described the GLTTR!'s output as resembling "a Merzbow album", replete with digital, harsh pulses and totally abstract howls: cascading, textured, three-dimensional noise1.

What reviewers said
Guitar.com published a review on 24 September 2025, rating the pedal 9 out of 10. The reviewer's verdict1:
- Extremely cool textured noise generation in a single unit
- Can be used as a synth by itself or with a guitar
- Those expecting a traditional effect will have a very hard time1
That last point is worth weighing if you are shopping in this territory: the GLTTR! is not a noise gate or a cleaner-upper of any kind, and players after a traditional effect will not find one here. It is a generator of noise and texture, and it rewards a taste for the abstract1.
