The Concrete Cliffs is a high-gain distortion and boost pedal made by Fowl Sounds with extreme metal band Inter Arma. Guitar Pedal X describes it as a parametric opamp distortion with boost, built around fully parametric Mids, semi-parametric Bass, and a Slew Limiter / Gain Structure control1.
The controls
The Concrete Cliffs gives the player several ways to shape a distorted tone1:
- Fully parametric Mids, for dialling into a specific midrange point
- Semi-parametric Bass
- Slew Limiter / Gain Structure control, which Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson describes as "a smart Slew Limiter / Gain Structure control - which makes things progressively darker and woolier"1
- Tone control, which remains active when the EQ dials are neutralled
The Slew Limiter essentially sets the degree and character of how the circuit distorts. Green is the lightest setting and red is the heaviest and darkest1.
Using the EQ
A useful setting for players who want a simpler response: turning the Bass, Mid and Treble dials to noon essentially takes those controls out of the circuit, leaving just the Tone control1.
Availability and price
As of 20 February 2025, the Concrete Cliffs was available for preorder from the Fowl Sounds webstore at $249, with the pedal taking circa 2 weeks to ship1.
One caveat from the same review: "The graphics can get a little in the way of the pedal legends - where overall legibility isn't great."1
