Frost Giant Electronics Yama

The Yama is an analog preamp and boost pedal from Frost Giant Electronics. It is aimed at players who want extra level without a change in character: the maker asks, "Want a boost pedal that wont color your tone but boost your frequencies?"¹ It belongs to the wider family of preamp pedals and boost pedals, and it is designed to work with dirt pedals rather than replace them.

What it does

Frost Giant describes the Yama as a pedal you can "Put this at the end of your chain and just use is as an always on tone shaping tool. It will turn your fuzz's and distor"¹. In other words, the maker positions it as an always-on pedal placed after your dirt: pushing fuzz pedals and distortion pedals harder from behind rather than adding gain of its own at the front of the chain.

On the road

The Yama has appeared on professional boards. In Premier Guitar's rig rundown with Mammoth WVH, it came up that Jon Jourdan "traded in the Frost Giant Electronics Yama for another boost" before that tour, so it was part of his setup before being swapped out².
