The Fuhrmann Hot Rod is an analog overdrive pedal from Fuhrmann. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as an "Overdrive with a very warm feel that is very reminiscent of a classic British tube amplifier," adding that it is meant to "Highlight your guitar like the powerful engine of a Hot Rod."1

What it does

The Hot Rod sits in the overdrive camp rather than distortion or fuzz: it pushes your amp or adds grit on its own, with the warm, amp-like character RockBoard's PedalPedia describes.1 With a 9mA draw at 9V DC center negative, it runs from any standard pedalboard supply without special provisions.1

Fuhrmann's own product page carries a manual for the pedal (in Portuguese) as a PDF download.1

The Hot Rod circuit today

The Hot Rod name also lives on in other makers' work. GUPtech, a Canadian pedal builder, offers the GUPtech Honker Hot Rod, a Tube Screamer style overdrive that includes what the maker calls a "Hot Rod mod including a Bass/Fat selection toggle."2 That pedal's voicing toggle offers a Dual Diode mode in the down position and an LEDs Clipping mode in the center position, and it comes in Orange and Purple color options.3

The Honker Hot Rod is a GUPtech product, not a Fuhrmann pedal. It is a separate take on the hot-rodded Tube Screamer idea, so its controls and voicing options are GUPtech's own.

Questions

Is the Fuhrmann Hot Rod analog or digital?

The Hot Rod is an analog overdrive. Fuhrmann lists its circuit type as analog on the product's PedalPedia entry, alongside a 9V DC center negative power requirement and a current draw of 9mA, which is light enough for any standard pedalboard power supply.

What does the Fuhrmann Hot Rod sound like?

Fuhrmann describes it as an overdrive with a very warm feel, reminiscent of a classic British tube amplifier, and says it is meant to highlight your guitar like the powerful engine of a Hot Rod. As with any overdrive, the character comes from the pedal's clipping and voicing rather than a modelled amp.

Is there a modern pedal based on the Hot Rod circuit?

GUPtech makes the Honker Hot Rod, a Tube Screamer style pedal that includes a Hot Rod mod with a Bass/Fat selection toggle and a voicing toggle offering Dual Diode and LEDs Clipping modes. It is a separate product from a different maker, not a Fuhrmann pedal.
