Fulltone OCD-Ge

The Fulltone OCD-Ge is a Custom Shop overdrive pedal from Fulltone, a germanium-equipped take on the company's OCD, which Delicious Audio called one of the few overdrives to deserve the label of "evergreen classic." The OCD-Ge keeps the OCD's basic circuit but reworks the clipping section, and it arrived as a limited Custom Shop offering rather than a standard production model¹.

What it does

The OCD-Ge is a Custom Shop version of the OCD with a few circuit tweaks. Its clipping stage uses two MOSFETs plus two germanium diodes. According to Delicious Audio, the OCD circuit is unusual in that it uses two MOSFETs configured as hard clipping to a voltage reference, instead of the usual way of clipping to ground¹.

Delicious Audio described the germanium version's sound as "Great definition, more tube-like feel, a bit wider dynamic range, more sustain, and a more focused single-note tone."¹

Designer Mike Fulltone, according to Delicious Audio, had intended all along to have germanium diodes in the original OCD, which the OCD-Ge finally puts into practice¹.

Design and finish

The OCD-Ge carries a blue LED, which Delicious Audio framed as a fitting touch for what it called the ultimate OCD. The enclosure is finished in Metallic Teal with a chrome undercoat, a paint job that morphs between blues and greens depending on the light and the angle of view. As with all Fulltone pedals, it is 100% built in the USA¹.
