The GTC Sound Innovations Revpad is a wireless XY pad controller system built around a floor-mounted effects processor and foot controller. Its defining idea is the Revpad Touchpad, a compact wireless XY pad controller that mounts on any guitar, so a player can control effects by touching and moving a finger on the pad while playing. Guitar World reviewed the system in July 2017 and gave it a Platinum Award1.
What it does
The system has two parts. The Revpad Touchpad affixes to any guitar and communicates with the Revpad base unit via a wireless connection. The base unit serves three roles at once: it is the wireless receiver for the Touchpad, the floor-mounted effects processor, and the foot controller1.
As an effects processor, the Revpad provides a comprehensive range of standard guitar effects, including overdrive, distortion, compressor, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, delay, reverb, and pitch effects, among others. Alongside those standards it includes unconventional effects that take advantage of the XY pad: EZ-Tap, EZ-Arp (an arpeggiator), a dynamic kill switch, symphony, techno wah, and bomb1. For comparison with single-effect pedals, these cover ground familiar from overdrive, distortion, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, delay, reverb, and wah pedals, all in one floor unit.
The unit stores up to 200 presets, and it can be programmed to control external MIDI effect processors or VST effects via the Touchpad, extending the pad's control beyond the built-in effects1.
Controls and power
The base unit can be powered by the included nine-volt adapter or by a pedalboard's power supply1.
What reviewers said
Guitar World's July 2017 review gave the Revpad a Platinum Award. The reviewer's bottom line was that instead of forcing a player to use a specific guitar or make complicated, evasive modifications to a favorite instrument, the Revpad allows guitarists to take advantage of the incredibly expressive creative capabilities of an XY pad controller with any guitar1.
