The Heather Brown Electronicals Volga Preamp is a preamp pedal, not an overdrive. It is built around FETs, transistors used here to shape gain and breakup the way stages of a tube amp do, and the reviewer at Pedal of the Day describes it as mainly voiced to run at the front end of a tube amp1. It builds on the maker's previous three pedals and was covered by Pedal of the Day on 20 July 20251.

What it does

The Volga is designed to add the character of a pushed amp rather than the sound of a drive pedal. Any breakup a player hears comes from pushing the first stage FETs with the channel I or II knob, or from pushing the amp into breakup with the pedal's level, not from overdrive circuitry1. That places it among Preamp Pedals rather than Overdrive Pedals or Distortion Pedals.

The two channel knobs, I and II, are used to dial in where the breakup point sits, if the player wants one at all1. The reviewer also describes a Lava Lamp mode, which they connect to an "all amp no drive" sound:

"It sort of reminds me of older Led Zeppelin tracks, like an 'all amp no drive' sound."
