The J. Rockett Audio Designs Tour Series The Hooligan is a fuzz pedal, described by MusicRadar as "a fuzz box for modern guitarists, not the mods". It is a compact version of the brand's WTF Fuzz, and MusicRadar's review found it "as brutal-sounding as its name suggests"1.
Where it sits in the Tour Series
The Hooligan was announced in August 2016 as the fifth product release in the Tour Series line2. Premier Guitar's press release described the series as "comprised of new products designed with the influence of top Nashville and LA touring artists to address their needs on the road"2. The line had begun rolling out earlier that year: the .45 Caliber Overdrive was announced in June 2016 as the fourth Tour Series release3.
Gearnews noted that the Hooligan shares "the same simple layout and design aesthetic as it's archery-themed label mate", the Archer pedal4.
What reviewers said
MusicRadar's review is the main published verdict on the pedal. On the sound when pushed hard1:
"Crank it up and you get an angry, spitting distortion that sounds like a classic 60s fuzz with bags more bottom-end."
The same review highlighted the pedal's "thick synth-like tone" on bottom-string riffs, and summed up its verdict as "Brilliantly brutal tone"1.
