The JHS @+ Black Edition is a distortion and boost pedal from JHS AT+ designer territory: it is an Andy Timmons signature pedal, part of a compact trio that also includes the Super AT Mod overdrive and the Halo Dual Echo1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described it as "JHS @+ Black Edition Distortion and Boost," priced at $219 USD as of May 20231.

What it does

The @+ Black Edition takes its voicing from the Marshall JCM800 amp style. Karlsson called it "a cool JCM800 voicing evolved from the JHS Charlie Brown," and the circuit is based on a modded Angry Charlie1. That lineage places it among JHS's Marshall-flavored drive pedals rather than the transparent overdrive camp.

Its Wattage / Gain Structure switch offers three settings, 25W, 50W and 100W, which change the pedal's gain structure the way a bigger or smaller amp would1. Around those, the knob layout covers Volume, Drive, EQ, and Air / Presence, with a Boost knob and separate Bypass and Boost footswitches1.

How reviewers heard it

Karlsson's verdict was mixed in a specific way: he found the Black Edition "a touch on the darker and denser side - not quite as naturally Marshall-sounding as the Formula B Eighty Master," another JCM800-voiced pedal he compared it against1. Players chasing the most immediate Marshall character may hear that difference; players after a denser, darker high-gain voice may prefer it.

Availability

The Black Edition is a rarer variant. Karlsson noted that "there never seemed to be any in stock on this side of the pond," meaning the UK, so players there have had trouble finding one1. The standard JHS AT+ is the more widely available sibling in the same Andy Timmons line1.
