The Jordan Spirit in the Sky Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from the revived Jordan brand, and it is a further modification of the Boss Tone circuit. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, covering the pedal's release, put it plainly: "The newest Spirit in the Sky Fuzz is simply a further modded Boss Tone"1. It is sold alongside two other contemporary Jordan builds, the Jordan Buzz Tone and the Jordan Acid Tone, which together make up the revived range1.
What it does
The Spirit in the Sky Fuzz takes the Boss Tone circuit, a design with a long line of descendants, and adds a modification of its own. The pedal keeps the same control layout as its two siblings in the revived Jordan range: Volume/Level and Attack, plus a single 2-way Mods switch1.
Its controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume/Level | Sets the pedal's output level1 |
| Attack | Sets the fuzz character1 |
| Mods switch (2-way) | Engages the Starved / Dying Battery Mod1 |
On the Spirit in the Sky, that switch engages a "Starved / Dying Battery Mod", a mode that emulates the sound of a fuzz running on a depleted battery, a trick fuzz players have long used to get softer, more splattery textures1.
Where it came from
The Jordan name returned in April 2025 with three contemporary fuzz builds1:
| Pedal | List price (April 2025) |
|---|---|
| Jordan Spirit in the Sky Fuzz | $120 USD1 |
The circuit it is built on, the Boss Tone, has inspired many takes. Guitar Pedal X notes that the recent Ananashead Spirit Fuzz is another Boss Tone style variant, and that the Hello Sailor Effects Spirit in the Sky Fuzz is a Boss Tone take focused on recreating Randy California's tone2. That pedal, reviewed in June 2025, has just two controls, Level and Fuzz, with what the reviewer called extensive range on both, and he judged it "very special" among Boss Tone type fuzzes2.
The Jordan Spirit in the Sky Fuzz shares its name with the Heather Brown Electronicals Spirit in the Sky, a different pedal that combines fuzz with tremolo and a clean blend. The two are separate products from separate makers.
How it compares
Within the Boss Tone family, the Spirit in the Sky Fuzz stands out for its Mods switch, which the Buzz Tone and Acid Tone also carry in their own forms, all three pedals sharing the same two-control layout of Volume/Level and Attack1. Players comparing it with other Boss Tone descendants will find two-control simplicity is common across the family, but the Starved / Dying Battery mod is this pedal's own addition to the formula1.
