The Dr.J CompDriver is a compressor pedal from Joyo, part of the maker's Dr.J line. A compressor evens out the volume between your loud and quiet notes, tightening up your attack and adding sustain, which is why many players keep one near the front of the pedalboard.
What it does
Joyo says the CompDriver's tone was developed with input from a player named Jose, and describes the result this way1:
"The tone of this overdrive was adjusted with Jose's advice, which makes the tone sounds very clear and stands out from b"1
In other words, the maker positions the pedal as one that keeps your playing articulate and audible against the rest of the band, rather than buried in the mix. That clarity is the quality Joyo itself highlights about the CompDriver's sound1.
If you are comparing compressors, Joyo also makes the JOYO Dyna Compressor, a separate model in its range.
