The JPTR FX Warlow Fuzz Monstrosity is a fuzz pedal from the German maker JPTR FX, described by Pedal of the Day as "a unique, amp-crushing fuzz monster." It is a premium-quality rebuild of the OP Amp Big Muff circuit, reworked to deliver what the reviewer called "an even bigger, wider sound with more gain and volume"1.
What it does
The Warlow's distinguishing feature is its filter section. Pedal of the Day describes it as one that "combines both classic Muff and RAT filters for a truly versatile and dynamic" sound, drawing on two of the most familiar dirt-circuit voicings: the Big Muff's scooped, sustaining fuzz and the RAT-style filter character1.
The circuit was rebuilt from a vintage Big Muff. According to the review, "This pedal was rebuilt using a vintage Big Muff from the same release date as the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream album," the record whose guitar tones are closely tied to that style of fuzz1.
The maker
JPTR FX is a German pedal company. Pedal of the Day's review opens by noting that "Chris and the crew at JPTR FX build precision-crafted high-grade noise equipment over in Germany," and adds of the maker's output: "every one of their pedals we're tested out has been just incredible" build quality1.
The Warlow sits in a wider JPTR FX fuzz line that includes the JPTR FX Silvermachine, the Super Weirdo, and several Warlow variants such as the WARLOW mini, the Deluxe Warlow, and the TRVE WARLOW LIMITED 501.
"Plus, we got a limited pink color release, so it's even cooler than you think…"
