Keisman Pedals Thunderbird Dual Overdrive

Overdrive

The Thunderbird Dual Overdrive is a guitar effects pedal from Keisman Pedals that produces overdrive1. For a player, the appeal of a dual overdrive is stacking or switching two gain stages without giving up two pedalboard spots to do it.

What it does

As an overdrive pedal, the Thunderbird's job is to push a signal into mild to moderate clipping, the saturated, compressed character players use to fatten up an amp's natural breakup or add grit to a clean sound. What sets this one apart from a single-drive pedal is that it houses two drives, so it can be set as two separate gain levels or run together for more push1.

The pedal also carries a bass boost toggle, which lets the player add low-end weight to the driven signal, something that matters when an overdrive thins out the fundamentals on lower strings1. True bypass switching means the pedal is removed from the signal chain entirely when off, so it does not load down the guitar's signal when not in use1.

The Thunderbird Dual Overdrive is a separate pedal from the single-named Keisman Thunderbird, and Keisman's later two-in-one design, the Midnight Drive, took a similar combined-circuit approach as a limited edition boost/overdrive.
