The Lemon StudioSound Super-Phase is a phaser pedal made by Lemon Studio Sound in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 19801. It belongs to the phaser family: effects that sweep notches through a signal to produce the familiar whooshing, jet-like movement.
What it does
The Super-Phase is a four-stage phaser, meaning four all-pass filter stages create the phase shifting. On top of that circuit it adds two things not every phaser has: feedback, which deepens the intensity of the sweep, and an envelope generator driving the LFO rate, so the speed of the effect responds to the player's picking dynamics1. TONEHOME describes the result as "sporting a more subtle effect as compared to a 'Schulte Compact Phasing A'", the well-known German rack phaser of the era1.
Availability today
TONEHOME notes that "a properly working Super Phase is nearly impossible to find" on the used market1.
No production numbers are recorded for the Super-Phase1, so how many were built is unknown. For a player hunting one today, the practical reality is that working examples rarely surface, and condition will be the main question with any unit that does.
