The LongAmp Roxanne is a flanger pedal made in Poland by LongAmp. Pedal of the Day's reviewer called it "a truly remarkable flanger pedal" and described it as a recreation of the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress, the flanger that helped define the effect1. Electro-Harmonix's own Electric Mistress line has a long history as a flanger design2.
What the Roxanne does
As a flanger, the Roxanne produces the sweeping, jet-like effect the pedal type is known for, and the reviewer found its range covered everything from Police-era shimmer to Pink Floyd territory: "Not only does the Roxanne do an excellent Summers, it will get you to all places Gilmour as well." The reviewer added that it "brings with it a tone and range that's sure to make anyone who plays it want to (try) and bust out 'Message In A Bottle'"1.
The Matrix switch
The Roxanne carries over one of the Electric Mistress's most useful ideas. Setting the toggle to Matrix activates the "filter matrix" setting, which stops the sweep of the flange so the Rate control can dial in a sweet spot and hold it1. That turns the pedal from a moving effect into a fixed resonant filter tone, which is how many players use the original design.
Changes from the original
Older Electric Mistress units had a volume drop issue, as a lot of older effects tend to have. LongAmp addressed this in the Roxanne with an internal trimmer that sets the overall output level1.
The output trimmer is internal, so setting the overall level means opening the pedal up rather than turning a top-panel knob.
Power
The Roxanne runs at either 9V or 12V DC, depending on how much headroom you are after1. Higher voltage generally gives a pedal more headroom for cleaner, more open picking dynamics.
