LPD Pedals Broiler

The LPD Pedals Broiler is an overdrive pedal announced in November 2022 as a D-Style design: an amp-in-a-box overdrive, meaning a pedal voiced to imitate a specific amplifier rather than a generic drive tone. In this case the amplifier is the Dumble, and Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the Broiler as "a take on the sought-after D-Style overdrive" and "an amp-in-a-box voiced after the tone of the legendary Dumble amps"¹. It sits in LPD Pedals' wider line of amp-voiced drives, alongside pedals like the Fifty5 (Tweed-voiced), the Sixty8 Overdrive (Plexi-style) and the Bedlum Overdrive, a later Dumble-inspired release¹.

What it does

The Broiler's most distinctive control is its Bass knob, which sits before the clipping stage. That placement makes it, in Delicious Audio's words, "very powerful in determining the character of the clipping as well as controlling the low end content of the tone"¹. In practice, a pre-clipping bass control does more than add or remove low end: because the amount of low end fed into the clipping stage changes how the pedal distorts, the Bass knob also reshapes the drive character itself, from tighter and firmer to looser and more open.

As for the range of tones, Delicious Audio put it this way:

That spread, from edge-of-breakup cleans through crunch to sustained leads, is typical of what players look for from D-Style designs, which are often used to give an already-clean amp a Dumble-like voice¹.

Where it sits in the LPD range

LPD Pedals has built much of its catalog on amp-in-a-box overdrives, each named for or voiced after a different amplifier lineage¹:
