Luxury Tone FX Overdrive Sustainer 2

The Overdrive Sustainer 2 is an overdrive pedal from Luxury Tone FX, a builder based in Spain. Pedal of the Day describes it as an overdrive for guitarists seeking clear, articulate tones with a touch of warmth, and notes that it was the site's first look at the Spanish maker's work¹. It sits in the broad family of overdrive pedals, where it can act as a subtle boost or take the role of a main overdrive on a board.

What it does

Pedal of the Day's review describes the pedal as offering "smooth, dynamic overdrive that is responsive to your playing style"¹. That responsiveness is the selling point: the pedal is said to track how hard you play rather than flattening everything into one texture. The reviewer frames its range broadly, saying its "versatility allows it to perform equally well as a subtle boost or as a main overdrive"¹.

Controls and bypass

The pedal keeps things simple with three knobs, which Pedal of the Day calls "a hand built, three knob beauty that shines in any application"¹. On the electrical side, the Overdrive Sustainer 2 uses a buffered bypass rather than true bypass. A buffer keeps the signal strong when it passes through long cable runs, which matters on larger pedalboards¹.

Build and background

Pedal of the Day highlights the pedal's "rugged build quality... designed to withstand the rigors of both the studio and the stage"¹. Each Luxury Tone FX pedal is hand built, and although the designs are inspired by legendary effects from the '60s and '70s, the maker designs and builds them from scratch rather than copying an existing circuit¹.
