The Mammouth Machine Twin Whales is a delay and reverb pedal that combines two effects in one compact box. Instead of a single delay line, it carries two separate delay lines running in parallel, plus a reverb section that can be switched in and out with its own footswitch. Pedal of the Day described the idea as taking "a Delay pedal, make it TWO delays in one and the ADD in an independent Reverb section"1.
What it does
The Twin Whales gives a player four basic ways to work, all from one pedal1:
- Run one delay1.
- Run two delays1.
- Run one delay with a bit of reverb1.
- Run two delays, set at differing times, with a ton of reverb1.
The reverb is footswitchable and is only active when the Reverb switch has been pressed, so it can be brought in and taken out during a song without touching the delay settings1.
The Delay knob controls the delay time1. Because the two delay lines run in parallel, they can be set at differing times, which is what makes the two-delays-plus-reverb arrangement possible1.
Size and ease of use
Despite the number of knobs and footswitches inside, Pedal of the Day noted that "the enclosure itself takes up a rather small amount of space, considering all that it is hiding inside"1. The same review found the pedal approachable: "for a pedal with this many knobs and footswitches, the Twin Whales is really fairly easy to operate"1.
