The Mid-Fi Electronics Another/An-other (Fuzz Version) is a frequency dependent fuzz/chopper, a pedal that sits somewhere between a fuzz, a tremolo and a ring modulator. Mid-Fi Electronics describes the result as "a choppy/fuzzy trem/ring mod/divider who's frequency changes based on what note(s) you're playing!!!"1 Unlike a conventional fuzz pedal that only distorts, the Another/An-other chops and divides your signal, and the effect moves with your playing.

How it works

Mid-Fi Electronics lays out the signal path in three steps:

  1. Your signal is fuzzed up and split in two.
  2. Half goes to an electronic switch and then to the output.
  3. The other half goes to a frequency divider, which tells the electronic switch when to turn on and off.1

Because the divider is driven by the pitch of what you play, the chopping rate follows the notes rather than sitting at a fixed speed the way a tremolo pedal does. Play higher and the chop quickens; play lower and it slows1.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
Frequency (rotary switch)Sets the frequency division range, dividing the signal in half up to 12 times1
VolumeSets the output level1

The Frequency control is a rotary switch, not a knob, so it steps through its division ranges in fixed positions rather than sweeping continuously.

Power and bypass

The pedal runs on 9V DC with a negative tip and is true bypass, so when it is off your guitar passes straight through untouched.1
