The Morningstar MIDI looper is a MIDI-controlled loop switcher from Morningstar, the maker best known for its MIDI foot controllers. In its July 2017 announcement, Morningstar described it as having "5 channels, 100% true-bypass and super easy use", placing it alongside the company's loop-switching products like the Morningstar ML5 as a way to switch several pedals in and out of a signal chain under MIDI control1.
What it does
The unit gives a player five loops that can be switched in and out of the signal path, with 100% true-bypass switching so that pedals sitting in the loops are removed from the chain entirely when disengaged. Because it is MIDI-controlled, it is aimed at players who already run a MIDI controller or MIDI-capable pedals and want loop switching that follows their existing setup, rather than a standalone looper like those covered on the looping pedals page1.
Status
In the July 2017 update where the looper was announced, Morningstar said: "We'll be starting production on these soon, and will provide an update once they are ready"1.
The details here come from the maker's July 2017 announcement, when the unit had not yet entered production. Players researching current Morningstar switching and MIDI gear will find more documented products in the company's later range, such as the MC6, MC3, MC6 PRO, MC8 PRO and MC4 PRO, and the MIDI Box.
Questions
Is the Morningstar MIDI looper still available?
The only published information on this unit comes from Morningstar's July 2017 update, which said production would be starting soon and that an update would follow once the units were ready. The page does not carry pricing, specifications or a current availability status, so players looking for a current Morningstar switching product would need to look at the maker's later controllers and switchers.
