The MWFX Expression Pedal Remote is a simple box that allows for remote control of the BPM on the Judder pedal, perhaps to be mounted on or near your guitar. MWFX describes it as working identically to an expression pedal, and it will work with most pedals' expression pedal inputs, though it is made for the Judder pedal specifically and works to varying degrees with other devices.1
How it works
Inside, the Expression Pedal Remote is basically a 10k ohm resistor with a standard TS jack output, and MWFX notes the cable need not be a high quality one. The resistance between tip and sleeve is 22k.1
Because it is built around a fixed resistor rather than a moving treadle, it is not a rocker pedal you sweep with your foot: it is a remote that allows for remote control of the BPM on the Judder pedal, connected via a 1/4″ TS or TRS jack cable to an expression pedal input. For a wider look at foot-controlled options, see Expression Pedals1.
Who uses it
MWFX credits Declan McKenna with using the Judder pedal and its raw freeze effect, with the expression remote on his mic stand.1
The Expression Pedal Remote carries a list price of £18.00 on MWFX's site.2
Questions
Does the MWFX Expression Pedal Remote work with pedals other than the Judder?
MWFX says it works identically to an expression pedal and will work with most pedals' expression pedal inputs, but it is made for the Judder pedal specifically. With other devices it works to varying degrees, so results depend on what you plug it into.
What cable does the Expression Pedal Remote need?
Connection is made via a 1/4 inch TS or TRS jack cable. MWFX notes the cable need not be a high quality one, since the unit is essentially a resistor with a standard TS jack output.
