NoiseKICK FX The Reach

Distortion

NoiseKICK FX The Reach is a pedal that puts three effects in a single compact enclosure: a distortion, a tremolo and an oscillating noisemaker. Pedal of the Day described the result as "A custom distortion + tremolo + oscillating noisemaker"1. The tremolo section is an optical design with a toggle between sine (smooth) and square (choppy) waves, and the pedal is completely true bypass1. Because it was a custom build, it stands here as an example of what a small builder can assemble for one player.

What it does

The Reach stacks three sections that can be used together or separately, covering a wide range from conventional lead tones to full-on noise. Pedal of the Day's Matt Z put the range plainly: "It can produce 'standard' rock leads to experimental noise making and oscillating tones"1.

  • Distortion: a gritty distortion with a feedback toggle, the section that carries the standard rock lead sounds1
  • Tremolo: an optical tremolo with a toggle between sine wave, described as smooth, and square wave, described as choppy1
  • Noise: a white noise generator, the builder's "hissyfit" model, which supplies the oscillating and experimental tones1

The distortion side sits in the same family as the pedals covered on the Distortion Pedals page, while the middle section works like the units described on Tremolo Pedals. The noise generator is the unusual part: rather than a conventional effect type, it is a dedicated white noise source that can be blended against the other two sections for oscillating, experimental sounds1.

The pedal is completely true bypass, so when it is off, the guitar signal passes through without the circuit loading it1. Pedal of the Day also noted its "Cool Sloth design", the artwork on the enclosure1.
