The NUX NDO6 Queen of Tone Dual Overdrive is a dual overdrive pedal, part of NUX's Verdugo Series of stompboxes. It carries two different but complementary drive circuits in one enclosure, and its routing switches let you set the order in which they hit your signal: MS into HM, or HM into MS1. For a player, that means two gain stages on one board slot, with the flexibility to decide which circuit pushes the other.

What it does

The pedal's core idea is two overdrive circuits that can be stacked in either order. As Pedal of the Day put it in their review, "By using the versatile routing and toggle switches, you can adjust the order of the overdrives: MS->HM or HM->MS."1 Running the circuits one way versus the other changes which circuit acts as the boost into the other, which is the usual appeal of a dual overdrive: the same two circuits, arranged differently, give noticeably different stacked tones.

Controls and switches

Beyond the two drive circuits themselves, the NDO6 has two switches that shape how it sits in your rig1:

ControlWhat it does
Routing/toggle switchesSet the order of the two overdrives: MS->HM or HM->MS1
BF/TB switchToggles between Buffer-Bypass and True-Bypass1
IFS/NORMAL switchEngages the INPUT FET STAGE (IFS) to increase the input signal in order to reach the amp's break1

The BF/TB switch is worth knowing about when you build a board: buffer-bypass can help preserve your signal through long cable runs, while true-bypass removes the pedal's buffer entirely when the pedal is off. The IFS switch is aimed at players running into a tube amplifier, adding gain up front so the amp's input stage is driven into its breakup point sooner1.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day reviewed the NDO6 in April 2023 and came away positive on how it fits into a rig1:

"It plays nice with other pedals, sounds great through various amps and has just the right amount of grit on tap to keep"1
Pedal of the Day, 29 April 20231

NUX makes several other drive pedals that share family ground with the Queen of Tone, including the NUX Horseman, the NUX Ace of Tone and its dual-overdrive sibling the NUX NDO-5 Ace of Tone Dual Overdrive, the NUX Queen Of Tone, the NUX Tube Man and the Nux Morning Star.
