The Expression Roller v2 is an expression roller made by Pedalnetics, announced on July 3, 2026. It is a controller for the kind of parameter sweep players usually assign to an expression pedal: rocking the roller sends continuous control movement to whatever it is connected to.1

What changed in v2

Pedalnetics describes two changes over the earlier roller. The first is mechanical: "we've integrated a physical stop that prevents over rotation in both directions." That means the roller cannot be turned past its intended travel, which protects the mechanism when the roller is pushed to either end of its range.1

The second is a grip change: "Along with a more agressive knurling on the knob." Knurling is the crosshatched texture machined into a metal surface, and a more aggressive pattern gives fingers more purchase on the roller, useful when adjusting it mid-performance or with sweaty hands.1

Where it fits on a board

An expression roller sits alongside expression pedals as a way to control parameters in real time: delay time on a delay pedal, mix on a reverb pedal, or speed on a tremolo pedal, depending on what the roller is connected to. A roller takes less floor space than a treadle pedal and suits players who make smaller, deliberate adjustments rather than full rocking sweeps.1

Pedalnetics also makes the DVP4 Flush Plates, a replacement bottom plate for the Dunlop DVP4 expression pedal, so the Roller sits in a small range of expression control accessories.1
