Pigtronix Custom Shop Active Dual CV Expression Pedal

The Pigtronix Custom Shop Active Dual CV Expression Pedal is an expression pedal from Pigtronix that outputs control voltage, or CV, rather than acting as a passive sweep for a single pedal input. Its two outputs let one foot movement control two CV parameters at once, and its 0-5V output range makes it usable with Eurorack modules and other synth gear, not only guitar pedals. Pigtronix announced it in August 2014 at $249 USD, sold exclusively through Nova Musik¹.

Outputs, polarity switch and jacks

The pedal's dual outputs are the core of its design: Guitar World reported that it "has dual outputs to control two CV parameters at once"¹. A polarity reversal switch sits on one of the outputs, letting the player move the values of two separate parameters in opposite directions, so a single rock of the pedal can raise one while lowering the other¹. Connections are on Neutrik jacks¹.

CV range and what it can control

With a range of 0-5V, Pigtronix describes the Active Dual CV Expression as eurorack-friendly. Guitar World reported that it "can control other gear equipped with 1/8\" CV inputs, including Arturia MiniBrute and MicroBrute, Studio Electronics BOOMSTARs, Tom Oberheim SEMs and others"¹. That puts it in synth and modular territory as much as on a guitar board: any module or keyboard with a 1/8-inch CV input is a candidate for the pedal's outputs.

Finish and availability

The pedal carries an automotive-grade, textured green finish, which Guitar World described as giving it a tough finish¹. At announcement it was available exclusively from Nova Musik¹.

Related pedals

Pigtronix had earlier worked in this space with the Dual Expression Pedal made with Mission Engineering, and the Custom Shop line later brought out the Active Dual CV Expression Pedal, which runs a 0 to 5V control voltage range that Pigtronix describes as eurorack-friendly².
