The Rad Sauce Electronics Dirtlay Fuzz Delay is a fuzz and a dirty delay combined in one pedal. Pedal of the Day described it as "A mix between a fuzz and a dirty delay," smashing two effects into a single enclosure, so a player can get a saturated, degraded repeat character without chaining a separate fuzz into a delay.1
Controls
The Dirtlay keeps its panel small. As Pedal of the Day put it: "One big knob, one little knob, two footswitches."1
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume (large knob) | Sets the volume, and is "extremely interactive with the Chase control"1 |
| Chase (small knob) | Sets the delay's speed1 |
| Hold switch | Makes the delay repeats go on in infinity1 |
| Two footswitches | Operate the pedal's two effects1 |
How it works
The delay side runs on a single PT2399 chip, the common delay IC found in many compact delay circuits. The Hold switch is the pedal's most distinctive feature: engaged, it makes the delay repeats continue indefinitely, which turns the Dirtlay into a tool for building up washed-out, fuzzed textures under your playing.1
Pedal of the Day noted that although the control count is small, "the range within them is massive and bold," and that the Volume knob interacts strongly with the Chase control, so the two settings shape the sound together rather than independently.1
